Marine Science Day to be held at Virginia Institute of Marine Science
The Virginia Institute of Marine Science will hold its Marine Science Day 2012 and free open house from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 19 at 1375 Greate Road, Gloucester Point.
A pair of 10-minute mini-lectures and seafood-cooking demonstrations will be offered at specific times. Click here for a schedule. There will also be a Parade of Marine Life along Greate Road and in the Watermen's Hall Circle
VIMS scientists’ international work in Antarctica and the deep-sea exhibits will be on view at the Watermen’s and Chesapeake Bay halls. There will also be tours led by scientists available at the working laboratories to learn about the latest tools and techniques of marine research.
Children activities include sand-based crafts, the Teaching Marsh, the Shellfish Hatchery and the Maritime Forest. There will also be a Scientist for a Second photo booth and an opportunity to collect estuarine organisms from the York River.
Marine Science Day T-shirts and other clothing and memorabilia will be for sale in the VIMS gift shop. T-shirts will also be available in the Welcome Booth. Hot sandwiches, snacks, and drinks will be available near the Children's Pavilion.
