One dead in car crash in Gloucester County
One person died and another was seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash on Wednesday, May 16 in Gloucester County.
The collision took place at 7:47 a.m. near Dutton Road at Route 198 just east of Hell Neck Road.
According to the Virginia State Police report, a 2008 Ford F-150 pickup operated by Rebecca Jones Bass, 38, of Onemo, was westbound on Route 198 when she crossed the center lane and struck a 1998 Volkswagen Jetta operated by Stephen Rea Johnson, 47, of Dutton.
Johnson died at the scene as a result of his injuries. Bass was transported by rescue squad to Riverside Walter Reed Hospital and later transferred to Riverside Regional Hospital in Newport News with non life-threatening injuries.
Both drivers were wearing seat belts, the report stated. Alcohol was not a factor in the accident.
The crash is still under investigation by authorities.
