Gloucester County resident to begin Peace Corp service in Ethiopia
Meredith L. Soberick, 22, of Hayes, Va., has been accepted into the Peace Corps and will depart for Ethiopia on June 6.
Upon arrival, she will begin a pre-service training period as an English teacher trainer and Peace Corps volunteer. After training is complete in September, Soberick will aid teachers in preparing and executing creative English language lesson plans.
Part of her duty will include fostering mutual understanding between Ethiopians and Americans through involvement in community life and English instruction.
Soberick, the daughter of Mike and Jean Soberick, is a graduate of Walsingham Academy in Williamsburg. She also attended the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, where she earned a bachelor arts degree in foreign affairs this year.
More than 3,150 Peace Corps volunteers have served in Ethiopia since the program was established in 1962 by President John F. Kennedy.
