Gloucester native wins Phoenix Art Group Scholarship
Tara Scott has been named the winner of the $600 Phoenix Art Group's Scholarship Support for 2012.
Scott is a Gloucester native and plans to attend Northern Virginia Community College in Annandale next fall. She will seek a major in photojournalism.
The Phoenix Art Group is a nonprofit corporation dedicated to promoting young artists in Gloucester County through art shows and other events. They also offer scholarship assistance to a qualified senior who wishes to continue art studies at the college level.
Scott won the scholarship through her application essay in which she described the passion she has for the photographic art form.
“I aspire to widen my horizons and chase my dreams of being a professional photojournalist,” Scott wrote in her essay, according to the press release. “When one is passionate about what they do, there is not a single obstacle that cannot be defeated.”
The Phoenix Art Group sponsors various events during the year for the young artists in the region. It works with students in public, private and home school systems.
