The Samaritan Group joins the United Way
The Samaritan Group will partner with the United Way Program starting July 1.
The United Way of the Virginia Peninsula awarded the Samaritan Group a $6,000 grant, which will be used to help Gloucester citizens with temporary financial emergencies, including rent and heat payments.
“This money will be a huge help to our budget,” Samaritan Group Vice President Bill Fulton said in the press release. “In 2011, we took in about $61,000. Of that amount, about $26,000 came from grants. The rest of the money was contributed by businesses, individuals, churches and civic groups. We depend on grants and we depend even more on the Gloucester community.”
Before receiving the grant, the Samaritan Group received money from the United Way office through designated funds, meaning the donor designated funds specifically for it.
The United Way office is at 739 Thimble Shoals Blvd. in Newport News.
