Gloucester Arts on Main elects board of trustees

Gloucester Arts on Main held its first-ever membership meeting to elect its board of trustees for the next year.

Kay Van Dyke, an artist and architect, was elected as chairwoman; Shari Jourdan, an engineer, was elected as secretary and treasurer; Dick Welton, a photographer and president of the Phoenix Art Group, was elected as vice chairman of promotions; Mark Holthaus, in investments, was elected as vice chairman for long-term planning; and Carol Negus, a nonprofit manager, and Diane Keller, a farmer and retired from the Air Force, were elected as board members.

After approval of the board of trustees, Deborah Collier, from the Corner Cottage Frame Shop, gave a presentation on how to preserve artwork. She showed the types of glass to use to protect art and explained cleaning techniques for oil paintings, acrylics and watercolors.

Collier is a self-trained preservationist and has been framing and doing renovation work on artwork for more than 20 years.

Gloucester Arts on Main, which holds art classes for adults and children, is open from noon to 6 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays. It's at 6580-B Main St. in Gloucester.
