Two Gloucester runners complete Race Around the Base 10-Mile Run

Two athletes from Gloucester completed the third annual Race Around the Base 10-Mile Run on Dec. 8 in Langley Air Force Base.

Andrew Smith, 55, crossed the finish line in 1:25:35, and Jill Smith, 47, finished in 1:40:28.

According to race organizers, a total of 88 runners finished the 10-mile race, which began and ended at Shellback Fitness Center.

David P. Lockard, of Hampton, was the men's overall winner with a finishing time of 1:05:33, while Carrie Wentzel, of Langley, was the winner in the women's category with a time of 1:18:12.
