Gloucester High's Boyer earns 2013 Youth of the Year award
Kayne Boyer earned the 2013 Youth of the Year Award from the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Virginia Peninsula, it was recently announced.
Kayne Boyer earned the 2013 Youth of the Year Award from the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Virginia Peninsula, it was recently announced.
According to a press release, "As a member of the Gloucester Club, Boyer has taken part in Positive Action classes, SMART Moves classes, Workforce Development classes, and has attended Ripken Baseball Camp as a part of Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation Badges for Baseball Program. Kayne was also selected by the Gloucester Boys & Girls Club and the Kiwanis Club of Gloucester to attend the Kiwanis International Leadership Conference and was invited back to be a student mentor and counselor."
"The club gave me opportunities to excel in not only athletic activities, educational activities and prevention classes, but it helped me develop character and leadership skills," Boyer said in the release. "The club taught me how to give back to my community and to the younger youth at the club,".
Boyer received the honor Jan. 17 at the of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Virginia Peninsula's annual meeting.
The Youth of the Year program has a long history with Boys & Girls Clubs. Each year, one youth is selected out of Boys & Girls Clubs of the Virginia Peninsula's 15 clubs and over 5,000 youth to represent our organization at the state level. Kayne will compete in April for the State Youth of the Year Competition and if he wins he will move on to the Regional Competition later this spring. Winners of these competitions will receive scholarships from Tupperware Brands Corporation.
Kayne is a senior at Gloucester High School. He plans to attend Liberty University after graduating in June.
